Hybrid trumpet and extensions, Slide trumpet

Rajesh Mehta plays his invention the "Hybrid Trumpet" which combines a rare custom-designed Bass trumpet (made by instrument maker Schilke) with a pocket trumpet and/or various sound transforming extensions. These radically extend the timbral, microtonal, percussive and spatialized music possibilities of the trumpet.

Additionally since 1998 Mehta plays a Firebird slide trumpet with a trombone like slide, made by instrument maker Holton together with Maynard Ferguson. He uses this for his work with microtonal music especially in collaboration with Carnatic music.
