This project took place during June, 1993 in Amsterdam. On consecutive days a different group recorded a piece designed for the musical persons involved - some structured, others entirely improvised. The participants hail from widely ranging places (Australia, France, India, The Netherlands, Scotland, Switzerland, the U.S.) and musical backgrounds (Australian aboriginal, early European, classical and contemporary, jazz, Indian classical).

Special thanks to all of the participating musicians, Joost van de Laar and New Limits, Matthijs Vos and Huibert Boon of Studio MIND, Mukesh and Anisha Mehta, and Irene Pool.

Liner Notes

Arrows point out or in through mazes the ear owes its elves to literally hear, to follow, to hearth. If in time, they indicate the passage from desiring silence to breath to the loving sound by which arrows become what Eros pierces the heart with.

Amphion built Thebes out of sounds: the old siren song of musician as Supreme Architect should not deafen us to a newer, sharp and gentle one of music a synergetically interactive gathering of people, what used to be called polis.

And they come, these new citizens, from all around the world, as they say. A crucible comes, made ready for the occasion. Time joins the collective; wandering sounds found new homes.
